BIRDS OF PREY Finally Finds Its Cassandra Cain!

Read Time:1 Minute, 31 Second

The moment has been prepared for. We’ve waited since July to find out who would be cast as fan-favorite Cassandra Cain in Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey. There was a brief rumor the role might go to Andi Mack star Peyton Elizabeth Lee, but then nothing ever came to fruition there. Other lead roles were all filled out, one by one. An impressive cinematographer was enlisted to shoot the film while fans waited. And now- finally– we’ve got our answer!

Variety reports that newcomer Ella Jay Basco is in negotiations to play Cassandra in the film. She will be joined by Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn, as well as the previously cast Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Black Canary and the Huntress.

The site also provided this new teaser for the film’s narrative: “In the new film, Robbie, Winstead, and Smollett-Bell team up to protect Cain’s character when she comes across a diamond belonging to McGregor’s Black Mask, a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.

While this could seemingly contradict some of our own exclusive reporting about the film’s plot line, I’ve been told that this “diamond” element is only a minor part of the story and actually works in conjunction with what we’ve shared. To explain how it connects would be a spoiler, though, so you’ll have to wait and see!

It should be interesting see what the child actress will bring to the role- which we’ve heard compared to X-23 from Logan.

All in all, I’m excited that this particular role has finally been cast. Cassandra’s always been one of the best members of the Bat-Family and newcomers to her character are in for a treat with her in Birds of Prey.
