DOCTOR WHO: A Platoon Of Judoon Will Soon Appear In Season 12

Read Time:3 Minute, 6 Second

*Assimilation: Earth English* Doctor Who fans point and laugh at the “long waits” that Game Of Thrones fans complained about between seasons. It is second nature to us. Jodie Whittaker’s first season as the Doctor ended in the fall of 2018. We were treated to one special on New Years Day in 2019, but we won’t get anymore of the greatest show in the universe until 2020. When it does return though, we know at least one foe that the Doctor will face off against: The Judoon.

The Judoon are a race of rhinoform bipeds that are frequently used as intergalactic police. They first appeared in the 3rd season of the relaunched show, with David Tennant’s 10th Doctor. They made a few smaller appearances after that, and even showed up in the spinoff show The Sarah Jane Adventures. You can see the 10th Doctor communicate with them here:

Their appearance and the way they talk is very memorable, and it will be fun to see them square off against the 13th Doctor. The picture released by The BBC has a Judoon sporting a slightly different look than fans are used to:

A Judoon With A Mohawk!

This is the first time we’ve seen the Judoon with hair, which is an interesting look. Showrunner Chris Chibnall had this to say about their return:

No! Sho! Blo! The Judoon are storming back into Doctor Who in full force, and the streets of Gloucester aren’t safe. If anyone has anything to hide, confess now. The Judoon are taking no prisoners, and will stop at nothing to fulfil their mission! The whole team on Doctor Who are delighted and scared in equal measure to welcome them back: one of many treats we’ve got in store for viewers next series. And we’re over the moon (with Judoon), to be welcoming the wondrous Neil Stuke as guest star. We can’t wait to show you what happens when his path crosses with the Thirteenth Doctor.

The present day episodes are always a tiny bit of a let down, since the show can go anywhere at anytime. But there have been a ton of fun ones, including when the last time the Judoon were the main attraction of the episode. So maybe this will have the same vibe. The Doctor doesn’t like how narrow minded they are, or when they come to Earth. Judoon will carry out a sentence (usually always death) with no thought of the consequences. Usually, no one has any power to object, but there is no higher authority than the Doctor, so she will have a little something to say about it, I’m sure.

Whittaker’s first season as the Doctor showed her facing off against all new alien races. The New Year’s Special showed the return of the Dalek, but in a unique way. This is the first time she will encounter a familiar (to the audience) alien in a regular episode. I do like that Chibnall mentioned that this is “one of many treats” happening next season. Hopefully that means more returning characters – perhaps an old immortal friend with a long coat…

It is just nice we are getting any news at all about the new season. Doctor Who fans are often starved for information, so I like to savor it when we do get some, especially as good as this.

To ho flo sho plo no flo sho to wo plo sho to ho sho so flo blo so plo no sho plo fo sho do plo co to plo ro sho wo ho plo. In other words: The 12th season of Doctor Who will premiere some time in 2020.
