STAR WARS: Lucasfilm Open To KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC Adaptation

Read Time:1 Minute, 47 Second

There’s been a lot of Knights of the Old Republic news recently, with rumors of D.B. Weiss and David Benioff’s trilogy potentially being focused on the era, and Alex Kane’s book on the making of the beloved video game (which I reviewed HERE), and our PlayItLoudCast crew got to interview Kane as well on their podcast. But now MTV confirmed during Star Wars Celebration with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy that Lucasfilm is working on some sort of adaptation of the game. This was the same interview where she said we had not seen the last of Rey, Finn and Poe. Read what she had to say below.

“You know, we talk about that [Knights of the Old Republic] all the time. Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now, I have no idea where things might fall, but we have to be careful that there is a cadence to Star Wars that doesn’t start to feel like too much.
We don’t have a crystal ball, you know, we tried a little bit with
Solo to see if we could do two movies a year and whether or not there really was an opportunity for that, and we felt that’s not going to work. So, we back off of that a little bit. But it doesn’t mean we don’t think about lots of different stories, because that’s the exciting thing about this universe.”

The game takes place a millenia before The Phantom Menace, so it avoids a central issue the current Star Wars movies have right now with overlap in the only era we’ve seen so far in Star Wars, the original trilogy plus/minus forty years. Kennedy doesn’t state what type of adaptation it would be (film, TV or otherwise). We could see another retread of the game, maybe a KOTOR 3, a book, TV show or movie. We’ll just have to wait and see!

What would you want this adaptation to be? Video game? Film? TV? Book? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more as we have it!
