John Krasinski ‘Would Love’ To Direct A QUIET PLACE 2 (So Would I)
A Quiet Place seemingly came out of nowhere and became a smash hit with John Krasinski (The Office, Jack Ryan) directing. As is the way of the world now, as soon as any property becomes profitable, studios want more of it. That is the case here, as very quickly after, Paramount wanted A Quiet Place 2– with or without Krasinski.
Talking to The New York Times, Krasinski says he is open to returning for A Quiet Place 2, when he initially thought that wouldn’t be the case.
“Paramount was asking a bunch of writers and directors what they might do with it, and to their credit, they didn’t take any of those pitches because they felt a little more franchise-y. Meanwhile, I had this tiny idea that fit that world and could be exciting. Paramount asked if I would write it and I’m doing that now, but I’m still thinking about what I want to do next. If I can crack the idea, I would love to direct it again, and if I can’t, I would love to give it to someone else with my fingerprints on it to make sure it’s being taken care of.“
That’s fair. For people who want Krasinski to remain, you can at least rest easy knowing that he is writing the thing. So even if someone else directs, they will be directing his story.
Krasinski seems protective of the franchise though, and wants to be involved in some capacity so it doesn’t go completely off the rails.
“I know that anyone reading this will be like, ‘Yeah right, art guy,’ but I do have sort of a parental feeling about this movie, and I don’t want A Quiet Place to turn into an action movie where 400 people have machine guns. Or did I give away the ending to the sequel?” [Laughs.]
A Quiet Place 2: Quiet Harder or whatever it ends up being called is expected for 2020.
