Dave Bautista is best known for his role as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy. While we don’t know if we will ever see him in the role again, due to the James Gunn situation, there was an entirely different franchise he could have appeared in – Star Wars.
In an interview with Flickering Myth, Bautista revealed he tried for two different Star Wars parts, but to no avail:
“I’ve actually auditioned for a couple of Star Wars [movies] and they’ve turned me down. It was always a dream of mine to be in a Star Wars film.”
As to which roles in which movies, that is anyone’s guess. But his further comments might shed a light on that:
“I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of the latest installments,” said the actor. “I particularly loved Rogue One. I thought it was a really great film and I love that they went a little bit dark with it. I thought it was really interesting.”
If Rogue One was indeed a movie that he tried for, I could see him possibly trying for Baze Malbus, as Slashfilm suggested. The other one could have been a bit part in Solo, or maybe even DJ in The Last Jedi.
Drax certainly seems like a character that the Galaxy far far away could contain, aesthetically speaking. So it is possible the character could have been an alien one as well.
Whatever the story, it seems unlikely that he will be able to be in any future chapters of Star Wars due to his harsh words for Disney, who happens to own Lucasfilm. But you never know.
Bautista has been in other big budget properties like Spectre and Blade Runner 2049 but the MCU is where he really shines. It’ll be a shame if that comes to an end.
Who do you think Bautista auditioned for? Would you like to see him in a future Star Wars movie?
