TRUE DETECTIVE: HBO Releases A Trailer For Season 3

Read Time:1 Minute, 42 Second

One of the best things that has ever aired on television was the first season of True Detective. It starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as damaged cops haunted by a case they had decades ago. The second of the anthology series seemed to have the same potential as season 1 because of the star studded cast consisting of Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and Rachel McAdams. But the second season fell short. While there were some moments of brilliance that shone through, it didn’t live up to the potential it’s predecessor had .

So HBO didn’t rush a third season. They took their time with it, locking in talent like Academy Award Winner Mahershala Ali. Now we can see what that will look like, from a preview that HBO released, which you can watch below.

The show seems to be set in 3 different times, like the first season of True Detective was. It shows Ali as a young detective, a middle aged family man, and then again as an old man.

True Detective also stars Stephen Dorff as Ali’s partner, and Scoot McNairy, who plays “a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years.”

The vibe I got from it is that Ali’s character Wayne Hays has some holes in his memory about things that happened, and he wants to fill them in. The preview already gives much more of a season 1 vibe than season 2 did, so that is a step in the right direction.

What do you think of this? Was Academy Award Winner Mahershala Ali’s involvement enough to get you excited already? Or did you need the trailer?

The third season of True Detective airs in January, on HBO. Deadline has the story synopsis:

Season 3 of True Detective will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.
