Sebastian Stan Shocks No One – Says He’d Love to be Captain America in the MCU

Read Time:1 Minute, 58 Second

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is celebrating its tenth anniversary. There are many characters throughout it that we’ve known and loved for a decade now. When Avengers: Infinity War drops in May, the landscape of the MCU will change as we know it. It is a safe bet to say that not everyone will make it out okay.

If one of those people happens to be Steve Rogers, there are two people who could take on the mantle of Captain America. They have both been Captain America in the comics: Sam Wilson’s Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes’ Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). When Stan was asked if he would be interested in that role, he gave the answer any of us would:

“I mean, yeah I would love that one day, absolutely. I don’t know when that day would be, and I just think…it would be a very different Captain America you know, you wouldn’t be able to have the same Captain America as you have right now because he’s a different guy. Again, there’s this issue where we’ve got to get him to be trustworthy enough for them to give him that responsibility, you know, to fill those shoes, and those are hard shoes to fill. So I think it’s possible, I really do, but it just has to make sense and we might need a little more time.”

I know that Stan has a multi-picture deal with Marvel, and he’s in the middle of it. He apparently has a nine picture deal that was signed after Captain America: The First Avenger. So Stan has 7 movies left on his contract. On the other hand, Chris Evans had a six picture deal, and it expires after Infinity War. Now that doesn’t mean Evans can’t return. He can always sign up for more movies. So Stan is right. We don’t know when that day would be. They could always completely skip him and give the shield to Sam Wilson as well. It could go one of several ways.

Would you like to see Stan become the new Captain America? Would you prefer Mackie take it? Or would you rather have Marvel back up hellicarriers full of money to Evans’ house to keep him around? We will have a better perspective on things when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4.

  1. personally I wouldn’t mind seeing somebody else take the mantle, I still cant get used to Chris Evans being Capt. America. He has done a great job, but I still see a little Johnny storm when I look at his face. Is it only me? probably is, but Sebastian my guy.
