Casting Underway for SPAWN Reboot Led By Todd McFarlane
According to Todd McFarlane’s Instagram this past Sunday, he revealed that he has been meeting with several actors for various roles in the Spawn reboot. It seems the post was inspired by the odd coincidence that McFarlane got on his flight back home and ended up sitting next to Mark Dippe, director of the 1997 Spawn live-action film. In the post, McFarlane wrote:
“I was in Hollywood all day Friday talking casting roles to various actors about different character roles for the #Spawn movie. SOOO…of course when I am on my plane going back home the person who gets on last and sits next to me (literally) is the guy who directed the first Spawn movie (Mark Dippe)!?!? Had not seen him in years. Weird.”
Talk about coincidence, huh? With casting underway, the question is who will end up being the title role, but more importantly who will be playing Private Investigator Twitch Williams? Despite the title, Spawn will not focus on the namesake of the film, but rather, he will show up “at the opportune time to make the movie worthwhile.” The character of Williams will actually be the primary focus of the film.
To note, in terms of casting, McFarlane told Comicbook.com that “a couple” of Academy Award-winning actors approached him about starring in the film. As of right now, we aren’t sure who, but I am equal parts excited and leery still about the film. I love Spawn. Truly, I do. I have a collection of Spawn statues, but it’s hard to get the ’97 animated cartoon out of my head that aired on HBO. It was gritty, it was bloody… it was exactly what you expected. It also helps when you have Keith David voicing your hero.
You excited for a Spawn reboot? Sound off below on what you think!
