Ava DuVernay’s NEW GODS Movie Might Have Found Its Villains

Read Time:1 Minute, 46 Second

Ava DuVernay is going to make a New Gods movie for DC. Information is starting to trickle in on which characters may be used. This report comes from The GWW, and they’re claiming to know which villains will be used: Granny Goodness and The Female Furies.

Yes. Those are real names of real characters. Just like The Condiment King.

For those (like me) who are unfamiliar, here is a brief summary from the DC Wiki of “Granny Goodness”, a phrase which I DO NOT recommend Googling in public.

Granny Goodness is one of the evil New Gods of Apokolips and a servant to Darkseid. She is responsible for training most of Darkseid’s armies, including the Parademons and the elite assassins known as the Female Furies. Children selected for her training are brought to Granny’s Orphanage, where they are brutally tortured and frequently told “Granny Loves You.”

And the Female Furies:

The Female Furies are an elite team of evil female warriors from the planet Apokolips. All of them are New Gods who serve Darkseid. They operate directly underneath Granny Goodness, who trains all of Darkseid’s soldiers.

There is a ton of potential for these characters and some very fun casting possibilities. One of DuVernay’s strengths is casting, and she has cast Oprah before. Maybe she could be Granny Goodness? I mean, she already practically did.

I wonder if the rest of her family will show up? Grandpa Grumpiness. Mother Melancholy. Father Furious. Brother Bashful. Sister Stressed. Son Sad. Daughter Depressed. Aunt Angry. Uncle Ubiquitous. Cousin Cranky.

Those aren’t real. But they very well could be, since Granny Goodness is a thing.

With DuVernay at the helm we are in for a visual treat. Say what you will about Wrinkle In Time, but it was one of the most visually interesting and unique films to come out last year. To bring that sensibility to a cosmic DC Comics film is so much fun to think about. I can’t wait to see what she does with it.

New Gods is in quiet preproduction. We will be sure to keep you updated.
