James Gunn Clarifies The Timeline For THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
If you walked away from Avengers: Endgame expecting the next Thor-centric storyline to unfold within Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn says you’ve got another thing coming. Because, see, the world learned about a little movie called Thor: Love and Thunder this past weekend at San Diego Comic Con, and the Guardians director says the fourth Thor film will take place before Vol. 3.
When asked by a fan on Instagram about when Thor: Love and Thunder takes place in relation to Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol. 3, Gunn replied simply, “Before.”
This implies that the setup we caught at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, which seemed to imply we were up for some Asgardians of The Galaxy-type of fun in the next film about the intergalactic misfits (which Thor star Chris Hemsworth is totally into), was not as seamless as it seemed. On the contrary, it means the God of Thunder will take quite a detour before he gets to enjoy pulling rank on Star-Lord again.

Over the weekend, we learned a few key details about Thor: Love and Thunder when Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, director Taika Waititi, and shocker Natalie Portman paid a visit to SDCC, but none of what we learned involves his new Guardians pals.
What do you make of this news that Thor: Love and Thunder takes place before Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3?
Personally, regardless of when any of these stories take place, I can’t wait to see the continued adventures of these characters. Thor: Ragnarok was the first movie to get me to care about and enjoy the God of Thunder, and after three attempts I finally was able to buy into James Gunn’s Guardians of The Galaxy. So I’m fully invested in both of these franchises, and can be patient about seeing them cross over, if that’s- indeed- the plan.
