STAR TREK: PICARD Taps Michael Chabon To Be Its Showrunner!
Star Trek: Picard is set to premiere sometime later this year on CBS: All Access, and now we have a showrunner! Michael Chabon, writer for Spider-Man 2, and John Carter has been named showrunner for CBS’ this Star Trek show according to Variety. He’s been a part of the show’s creative team since the show was announced last year, and is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author for novels like The Yiddish Policeman’s Union, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Wonder Boys, and Moonglow.
Here’s what Chabon had to say about his new gig:
“Star Trek has been an important part of my way of thinking about the world, the future, human nature, storytelling and myself since I was ten years old, I come to work every day in a state of joy and awe at having been entrusted with the character and the world of Jean-Luc Picard, with this vibrant strand of the rich, intricate and complex tapestry that is ‘Trek.’”
We’ve had an extensive cast list revealed for the series, including Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. The series will also play off of events from J.J. Abram’s rebooted Star Trek movies, showcasing the next part of Picard’s life. Not much has been revealed about the plot other than that. Alex Kurtzman will still be playing a role, but it appears he might be taking on a Kevin Feige like role, managing all parts of the Star Trek TV universe. That universe is amassed with three live action TV series, as well as two animated series – and never say never on more.
Kurtzman, Chabon, Stewart, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Rod Roddenberry, Heather Kadin, and Trevor Roth will executive produce the show. Aaron Baiers serves as co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer as supervising producer. Hanelle Culpepper will direct the first two episodes of the series.
