MARVEL: J.J. Abrams And His Son Are Writing A SPIDER-MAN Comic!

Read Time:1 Minute, 57 Second

A week after reports popped up stating that J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions were now a Warner Bros. commodity, you probably aren’t expecting to hear that he’s creating some content for Marvel. But that’s exactly what’s happening. Abrams and his son Henry took to the official Marvel twitter account yesterday to announce that they are writing a limited series Spider-Man comic book that will be arriving this September!

This caps off a fun little whirlwind of Spidey rumors that sprang up earlier this week when Marvel posted this image:

This gave way to some outlandish speculation that Marvel was- get this– bringing back Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire to make Spider-Man 4.

The internet is a funny place.

As it turns out, that webbed up number four was merely part of the countdown at the beginning of this announcement video:

In the above announcement, Abrams and his son revealed that they’re writing a limited series that’ll be illustrated by the great Sara Pichelli, and that they’ll be debuting a new villain for Spidey named Cadaverous. In an accompanying report by the New York Times, the elder Abrams stated that the series “shows Peter Parker in a way you haven’t seen him before.

They also released this cover by Olivier Coipel, which gives us our first glimpse of Cadaverous:

On how he views the character, and why they’ve chosen the approach they’re taking, the younger Abrams had this to say:

“Spider-Man is one of those superheroes where the more you read about him, for me at least, the less I understand him. He’s so anti-everything that you’d expect from a hero. I think Stan Lee said something about putting the human in superhuman. That is what we’re trying to do.”

This sounds like it’ll be a pretty cool read. And if Cadaverous is a hit with fans, it could mean our boy Spidey has a new awesome rogue to square off against for years to come.

Spider-Man #1 arrives this September.
