DOCTOR WHO: THE END OF TIME Coming To Theaters For 10th Anniversary

The end of 2009 (technically New Years Day 2010, but time is a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff) marked the exit of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who with a two part Christmas/New Years special called The End Of Time. Now Fathom Events is bringing that special to theaters for a special one night only event. You can watch the trailer below.

August 7th is the day, and you can check if it is playing in your area over on their website. The trailer said there would be a new interview with Tennant, but the clip they showed looked like it was during his time filming. So maybe it is just an previously unaired interview, not a new one.

Regardless, if you enjoyed this special, you can watch it on the big screen. I’ve seen a Doctor Who episode on the big screen before, and it really is a special experience. When the best theme song in television history (I will fight you) blares on that movie theater sound system, it is truly magic.

Tennant did return one more time after this episode, for the 50th anniversary special in 2013. But that was a return so he could interact with John Hurt and Matt Smith’s Doctors so there could be three of the same person on screen at the same time. Does that make sense? I love this show.

Fun fact: In 2009, Tennant filmed five specials as his departure, instead of a full season. That year, he also appeared in the wonderful spinoff The Sarah Jane Adventures. What makes that special is that he filmed his appearance on that show after he wrapped his run on Doctor Who. So until he returned in 2013, his last experience being the Doctor was on a spinoff, even though it aired before his finale.

Tennant is one of the most popular Doctors the show has ever seen. Fans consistently clamor for him to return, and he’s up for it, if the situation calls for it. The 60th anniversary of the best science-fiction television show ever happens in 2023. It would be awesome to see him return with a few other Doctors, and then in 2033 we Fathom Events could put that episode in theaters.

Tickets aren’t that expensive, but if you don’t want to go to the theater, the episode is available on DVD and downloads to view again as well.
