Avengers: Endgame was the biggest movie of the year, and one of the biggest events of the decade, century, and millennium. It had a monumental run making a whopping $2.743 billion at the box office. There are some places where it is still playing in theaters. However, for the places that it has left already, fear not. It will return once again.
ScreenRant talked to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, and he confirmed that Endgame is returning to theaters, with some extra special bits at the end.
“Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.“
The “little tribute” could be to Stan Lee, who died last November. Or maybe it is of Tony Stark, the anchor of the MCU, whose journey is at an end now. Either way, this is likely to draw people back to theater. It might accomplish another thing by doing this: Overtaking Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time.
I have an English degree, so math is difficult for me, but we can get through this together: Avatar grossed 2.788 billion. Endgame currently stands at 2.743 billion. That means Endgame only needs *checks calculator* 45 million more to tie, or 46 more to beat it. Depending on how long this stays in theaters, and what interest this may garner, this final push just may do that.
This version of Endgame will be in theaters the weekend of June 28. Marvel is releasing this the weekend before a holiday, and the weekend before their next movie, which deals with the events of this movie, comes out. There are fair criticisms to make of Disney, but their marketing machine is the best in the business.
Due to the length of the movie, and a busy summer schedule, I will probably wait to see the new stuff when it is available on home release. But I am curious if it is substantial enough to warrant a new theatrical run. If so, why wasn’t it included originally? And if it’s not then is this worth it? I guess we will find out.
