David Tennant And Hayley Atwell Cast In Netflix Anthology CRIMINAL
David Tennant just got done playing a demon, and now he will play a criminal. He will star alongside Agent Carter herself – Hayley Atwell. Netflix’s new anthology series will show true crime stories that took place in the UK, Spain, France, and Germany. You can watch the announement video below.
Tennant is best known for his TENure as the the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who. Atwell is best known for playing Agent Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Atwell is also at the top of my list to be a future Doctor in Doctor Who. I hope they are in the same episode together, that way they will be familiar with each other when Doctor Who celebrates its 60th Anniversary in 2023 with a multi-Doctor story, and Tennant returns to help Atwell’s Doctor out. (Hey, I can dream).
“True Crime” is a very popular genre, so this will do extremely well. Netflix has a ton of true crime documentaries, and most of them are really good (let me recommend Evil Genius and The Legend Of Cocaine Island). So Criminal is in good company.
Entertainment Weekly has a bit more information about the series:
“What’s more, talent from each country will write, direct, and star in their respective episodes, which will be produced in the country’s native language. Tennant and Atwell will headline the U.K. entries, alongside Clare-Hope Ashitey (Children of Men, Seven Seconds) and Youssef Kerkour. Killing Eve writer George Kay and She’s Out of My League director Jim Field Smith, who created the show, are writing those episodes.”
The entire series will take place inside police interrogation rooms. So expect a ton of exposition. I expect there will be flashbacks to different aspects of the crime, but that is just a guess.
I enjoy this genre when done correctly, but the star power is what will draw me in here.
Step into the interrogation room and discover 12 unique crime stories from the UK, France, Germany and Spain. Coming this Autumn. Only on Netflix.
