A New AMITYVILLE HORROR Is In The Works!

Horror fans will be returning to The Amityville Horror in the near future! The Wonderfilm Media Corporation has announced that a new film titled Amityville 1974 has been greenlit and is now set to begin production later this year in November. Unlike other iterations of the franchise, Amityville 1974 will reportedly focus on the real life events that acted as the franchise’s backstory and will be written and directed by The Remaining filmmaker Casey La Scala.

In late 1974, Ronald Defeo Jr. murdered all six members of his family, which was comprised of his mother, father, two brothers and two sisters. The story took a potentially supernatural turn around a year later when a family bought the house and lived there for only twenty-eight days before leaving based on complaints that they were being terrorized by supernatural beings in the home.

“This is a story that takes its jumping-off point from the true facts surrounding the Defeo tragedy,” La Scala stated, “but also focuses on the human drama that took place inside a family as they were relentlessly stalked by a terrifying evil.”

“We are beyond thrilled to introduce Amityville 1974,” added Jeff Bowler, a founding member of Wonderfilm Media. “Casey has a truly unique and terrifying vision for the fright franchise and audiences will experience horror like never before with this film.”

Bowler will produce the film alongside Shaun Redick for Wonderfilm. Todd Garner will also produce the film, while Bret Saxon and Yvette Yates will executive produce. Wonderfilm will fully finance the picture and its sister company, Wonderfilm Global, will launch worldwide sales at TIFF.
