Paul Rudd Isn’t Sure If ANT-MAN 3 Is Happening
Avengers: Endgame closed several storylines, but also left the door open for several more. One of the characters who is able to have another story is Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. We know Spider-Man: Far From Home is happening, as it comes out next month. We know the Black Widow movie is happening, because it is filming right now. We also have confirmation of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3, Doctor Strange 2, and Black Panther 2 happening some time in the future as well. Then there is the whole slate of Disney+ shows that were confirmed for characters such as Loki, Falcon And The Winter Soldier, and Scarlett Witch and Vision. But nothing on another Ant-Man sequel.
When Yahoo talked to Paul Rudd, he told them he wasn’t sure on the film’s status.
“I don’t know. You need to make a call to the top brass and start a campaign to make it happen.“
Of course, he could be lying. He might not know exactly what he is allowed to say and what he isn’t about the highly secretive movie studio’s plans. So his best course of action is just to say that he knows nothing at all.
However, Marvel has not announced anything concerning Phase 4 officially. That will most likely happen at D23 in August. If you are a fan of the franchise, I wouldn’t worry until then. The character will definitely be used again, whether in a 3rd Ant-Man movie, or a team up with someone else, like how Hulk was in Thor: Ragnarok. The franchise has been profitable for Marvel, and has been vital to Marvel’s bigger picture, in terms of storytelling elements, so I can’t see them benching him for now.
Rudd did mention that if a third one happens, he would want it to be directed by Peyton Reed, who did the first two. Reed took over the first movie for Edgar Wright, who left due to creative differences. Reed has made that franchise his own, and put Ant-Man in the mainstream pop culture lexicon. It is funny to me that your parents, coworkers, and mechanics know who Ant-Man is now. I don’t know this for sure, but it’s a safe bet:
Ant-Man will return.
