First Major Details Revealed For Christopher Nolan’s Spy Epic TENET
There aren’t very many directors working in Hollywood today that have the same level of name recognition and respect as Christopher Nolan. For almost twenty years now, Nolan has delivered intelligent genre films and constantly made an effort to step up his game in his craftsmanship. Be it via utilizing as many practical effects as possible, shooting more and more frequently with IMAX cameras and 70mm film stock in a field where digital filmmaking grows evermore prominent, you can always count on Nolan to bring his ambition to the table. Details have been scarce up to now about Nolan’s upcoming film, save for the castings of John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki.
It has finally been announced that Nolan’s next film will be an espionage thriller titled Tenet, which will be produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas and executive produced by Thomas Hayslip. The film is described as “an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage” and will be filmed in seven different countries, using a mix of IMAX and 70mm film. Joining Washington, Pattinson and Debicki in the cast will be Nolan alums Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh, as well as newcomers such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Dimple Kapadia and Clémence Poésy.
Joining Nolan on the crew side of Tenet will be Interstellar and Dunkirk cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Jennifer Lame, costume designer Jeffrey Kurland and visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson. For the first time since his 2006 film The Prestige, Nolan will not be working with regular composer Hans Zimmer, due to his prior commitments with Denis Villenueve’s upcoming adaptation of Dune. Instead Tenet will be scored by Black Panther composer Ludwig Göransson.
