Bill Murray Is Open To Appearing In The New GHOSTBUSTERS Movie

Read Time:1 Minute, 38 Second

One of Bill Murray’s biggest roles was that of Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters and its sequel. After the many times Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis tried to get Ghostbusters 3 to happen, there were rumors that Bill Murray was the hold out, preventing it from happening.

In 2016, Murray appeared as a cameo in the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, as a different character, since the film took place in a different universe. Now Jason Reitman is making a new Ghostbusters movie, that takes place in the original universe. In an interview with IndieWire, Murray says he’s supported the 2016 version, and is open to return to the new one.

“I was in that movie just because they asked me, and I knew if I said no, I was saying I didn’t support that movie,” he said. “I felt like, OK, I’m going to support them because I support them as people. So I did that one and I would do this next one.”

While Reitman’s new movie is supposed to focus on a newer, younger cast that could include Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard, it expected that the surviving members of the original cast will appear in some capacity. Outside of Rick Moranis, who is retired, Murray was the only one I wasn’t sure about. I knew Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd were pretty much shoe ins. I also figured Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts would appear if they were asked. Murray was the enigma, so its nice to hear he would appear too.

I would expect to see Hudson, Aykroyd and Murray back in substantial supporting roles. That would be the draw of the flick after all, seeing the original Ghostbusters suit up one more time. Of course, with the death of Harold Ramis, it will still be bittersweet without the full team on screen.

Information is sparse regarding Reitman’s Ghostbusters film, but the things we do know have looked promising.
