MARVEL: Iger Discusses What’s Coming, And When We Can Expect To Hear About It
Disney had its quarterly earnings call Wednesday, where Bob Iger, the CEO gave hints that the future Marvel Cinematic Universe slate will be revealed at some point this summer. He would not give any specifics as to which characters would take the spotlight over, but did say Avengers: Endgame gave us some clues as to what the future of the MCU looks like. “There are huge opportunities” Iger said of the possible sequels, spinoffs and standalone superhero movies that could happen. “There are many different directions that we can go.”
Avengers: Endgame has rocked the world with a debut of 1.2 billion dollars, and has now reached 2.3 billions dollars, with the conclusion to the Infinity Saga still having several weeks left at the theater. Iger did promise “more possibilities beyond it”, but was mum on anything more.
While Iger won’t address the future of the MCU, we do know what is coming. Shang-Chi is in development, set to be the first Asian-American-led comic book film, as well as The Eternals, an epic fantasy about a race of aliens. Shang-Chi has a director, Destin Daniel Cretton, and The Eternals is filling out its cast, with Richard Madden, Ma Dong-seok, and Angelina Jolie.
We also know there are some Disney+ shows coming that will be set in the MCU. They will be “intricately linked and tied to the storytelling” of the plot and storyline that has come to pass on the big screen over the pst eleven years. Iger said “No one else is doing that”. Disney+ will have a Loki show, with Tom Hiddleston returning in some capacity. Falcon and Winter Soldier, which should have some… interesting elements depending on where/when the series is set. There’s also that Scarlet Witch and Vision series, that will apparently be at least partially set in the 1950s.
So there’s a lot on the horizon post-Endgame, and we don’t have much longer to wait to find out what it all looks like.
