David S. Goyer To Write & Produce HELLRAISER Reboot

Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second

With horror master Jordan Peele already producing a reboot of Candyman with Little Woods director Nia DaCosta at the helm, it probably shouldn’t surprise horror fanatics that someone in Hollywood is already working on rebooting writer-director Clive Barker’s other iconic horror film. Gary Barber, Chairman and CEO of Spyglass Media Group, has announced that Batman Begins screenwriter David S. Goyer is set to write and produce a reboot of Barker’s 1987 horror film Hellraiser. Keith Levine will produce the film alongside Goyer under the Phantom Four banner, while Spyglass Vice President Chris Stone oversees the project.

Clive and I go back more than 30 years together. For generations, his brilliantly twisted and imaginative Hellraiser haunted the minds of moviegoers with its searing imagery of Pinhead,” Barber stated. “David is the perfect storyteller to continue Clive’s vision for a new theatrical version of Hellraiser.

Goyer added, “I’ve been a fan of Clive’s work since the original Books of Blood paperbacks and The Hellbound Heart novella. Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.

Much to my embarrassment, I have never watched any of the original Hellraiser films. However the design and imagery of its main antagonist Pinhead is iconic in the lexicon of horror films and has long been one of my personal favorites. However I believe I should at least watch the original film from Barker sometime in the near future and see exactly how Goyer and company will opt to reboot the franchise. I’m intrigued to see who they might select to helm the film.
