A half hour after Deadline broke this story, Variety followed up with an update of its own, and it’s a really cool one for fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
As it turns out, Gabriel Luna will star in this new Ghost Rider!
A couple of seasons ago on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D we had a chance to meet an all-new live-action version of Ghost Rider. It was the Robbie Reyes incarnation, and he was played by Gabriel Luna. It would mark Marvel’s first attempt to move past the two Nicolas Cage-led Ghost Rider movies that came out earlier this century.
And now it sounds like Marvel is ready to take another look at the Reyes Ghost Rider. And much more than that, too.
Deadline reports that Marvel and Hulu have set live-action series adaptations for both Ghost Rider and Helstrom!
Both shows are set to debut on Hulu in 2020, and will join a suite of other Marvel series that either currently reside there (like The Runaways) or are on their way to the platform (like those four crazy-sounding animated series we told you about a few months back).
Deadline says there’s no word yet on whether this Robbie Reyes will be the same one from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or if Luna will get a chance to reprise the role. What we do know for now is that Ingrid Escajeda will serve as showrunner for Ghost Rider and Paul Zbyszewski will run Helstrom, with both being executive produced by Marvel’s Jeph Loeb.
Very little is known about Helstrom at this time, but it appears to be a take on the character Daimon Hellstrom, The Son of Satan in Marvel comics.
