David Dastmalchian is coming back to DC! The actor made his first notable appearance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, before heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to appear in their Ant-Man movies. But now he’s set to return to the World of DC for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he will play Polka-Dot Man! This follows the initial report of the purported roster for the new Task Force X, which also includes the rumored left un-cast Ratcatcher, King Shark, the alien femme fatale, and the rumored first appearance of Killer Frost. We have John Cena possibly playing Peacemaker, Idris Elba playing someone new (not replacing Deadshot, but maybe Bronze Tiger), Margot Robbie is returning as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis is returning as Amanda Waller, and Jai Courtney is returning to play Captain Boomerang.
But who is Polka-Dot Man? He debuted in No 300 of the 1962 Detective Comics, as Abner Krill, a low-level villain who used the theme of spots and spot like gadgets to make a name for himself. He’s an obscure character, having appeared less than 12 times since his creation, and he’s one who tends to lean into the weird, and makes it work. Something tells me he won’t be obscure anymore after this.
Dastmalchian is up and comer in Hollywood, where he currently stars in Marvel’s Ant-Man series, and having starred in Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, Blade Runner 2049, and will star in Villeneuve’s upcoming adaptation of Dune. He’s also going to be starring in Hulu’s series Reprisal, a revenge drama written by Josh Corbin, and produced by Warren Littlefield. He will star next in theaters for All Creatures Here Below, with fellow Marvel star Karen Gillian (who wants to direct a Marvel movie).
He’s appeared in another Batman property: Gotham- which just finished its run on TV. He also starred in The Flash on The CW, as the villain Abra Kadabra. And we also exclusively revealed him to have been cast in an upcoming two-part animated feature based on Batman: The Long Halloween.
