Phil Lord & Chris Miller Set To Develop Multiple Marvel TV Series For Sony

Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

In the wake of last year’s critically acclaimed and Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it has been announced that the film’s producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are moving on from their overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV to Sony Pictures TV, via a five year long agreement reportedly valued somewhere around the “nine-figure range.” Under the new deal, Lord and Miller will create and develop new drama and comedy projects for broadcast, cable and streaming and also supervise projects from other writers.

For fans of the most recent Best Animated Film at the Oscars however, the most exciting part of the announcement comes from the confirmation that the duo will participate in developing “a suite of television series based on Sony’s universe of Marvel characters.” Seeing as how Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man in particular and characters that are tied to his corner of the Marvel universe, this means Lord and Miller will be returning to the world of the Web-Slinger. However at this time, it is still unknown which exact characters the duo will explore and develop television shows around or which part of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters their shows will be specifically set in.

Needless to say, I’m mostly very excited by this news. The fact of the matter is that Into the Spider-Verse was one of the finest superhero films made in recent years and Lord and Miller’s other work indicate that they are a strong match for the web-slinger. My primary source of hesitation is the lack of certainty of where the two will delve into for their shows, but as always, the only remedy there will be to wait and see what they bring to the table.
