The Russos Are Working On A Stan Lee Documentary
Tonight, we will see the remaining heroes of the MCU do #WhateverItTakes to defeat Thanos and reverse the damage done by the Mad Titan. The people tasked with making that monumental 3 hour adventure into a coherent movie are Anthony and Joe Russo. This will be their 4th movie for Marvel. While there are no immediate plans for them to return to the MCU, they have left the door open for that. But they are doing a few other things, like a movie called Cherry with Tom Holland and TV Show called Deadly Class.
In an interview with IANS, Anthony Russo revealed they are working on a Stan Lee documentary.
“We love Stan Lee and I think it’s incredibly special that ‘…Endgame‘ will be his final cameo. We are fascinated by the life of Stan Lee and we are actually developing a little something that has to do with his work in the history of Marvel. But we are not ready to present it or talk about it yet. It’s more of a documentary.”
There is already an excellent Stan Lee documentary called With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story which was released in 2010. A lot has happened since then, including his death, so the Russos could have a fresh take.
Let me throw this out there though, if they do the sort of documentary where they film reenactments of moments in his life, there is only one person who should play young Stan Lee: Tom Holland. Look at this picture of the two side by side:

Regardless of how they format it, it sounds like the Russos are crafting a love letter to Lee. I’m sure they will have many people from the MCU sit down for interviews about him. But they need to go outside of the MCU too. No one has better stories about Stan Lee than Kevin Smith, and the Russos would be foolish not to use him.
It will be interesting to see what shape this takes. In the mean time, go find With Great Power. It really captures Lee’s drive to break the mold, his love for his wife, and the impact he had on everyone working in comics and movies today.
