PENNYWORTH TV Series Sets Premiere Date And Releases A New Trailer

Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

Okay, fine. I give up! I’ll say it: The upcoming live-action TV series about the adventures of a young Alfred Pennyworth, played by Jack Bannon, before he became the Dark Knight’s butler actually looks like it might be really good! The aptly named Pennyworth has been a rather peculiar project and the source of a fair amount of fandom scrutiny ever since it was announced to be in the works from Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller and executive producer Danny Cannon on Epix last year. With Gotham finally drawing to a close this week, fans craving for more now have an official release date for Pennyworth‘s premiere on Epix. It has been announced the show will premiere on July 28th.

Additionally a new thirty second long teaser has been released! Watch the teaser below!

As I said before, I am surprised to say that I actually feel rather impressed by this brief sneak peek at Pennyworth. I don’t know if I’m ready to say that I am entirely onboard yet, as the premise seems like it could get old rather quickly if handedly poorly, but the idea of putting a young Alfred smack dab in the 1960’s in a peculiar blend of old school James Bond and gothic horror seems to be working quite well so far.

I also have to wonder how the show will opt to handle Alfred’s friendship with a young Thomas Wayne. Personally I really hope the show doesn’t treat that dynamic like fan service or prioritizing winks and nods to the Dark Knight over establishing and developing a sincere friendship between Alfred and the youthful billionaire.
