Leonardo DiCaprio In Talks For Guillermo del Toro’s NIGHTMARE ALLEY

Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

While he may already be working on a darker stop motion animated adaptation of Pinocchio with Netflix, it would seem that Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro has had his sights set on his next live action film after 2017’s The Shape of Water ahead of that project. It’s been a while since there was an update on the project, but now fans of the director know who will be the film’s leading man!

According to Variety, Titanic and The Revenant actor Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star in an adaptation that del Toro is working on of the 1946 novel Nightmare Alley by William Lindsay Gresham. The site adds that del Toro is filling out the other vacant roles in the film ahead of production starting in the fall.

The seven decade old novel explores the rise and fall of an ambitious con-man who finds himself in over his head once he begins a scam with a corrupt therapist, who ultimately out-manipulates him. The novel was previously adapted to the big screen in the 1947 cult classic film noir of the same name, directed by Edmund Goulding and starring Tyrone Power in the lead role.

I’m surprised that I apparently didn’t hear about del Toro working on a new iteration of Nightmare Alley when the story was first reported in late 2017, but the project itself sounds very exciting to me. By extension, the acting prowess DiCaprio brings to this project is another thing to get hyped about. The man has one heck of a track record at this point.
