Jai Courtney Is Psyched To Play Captain Boomerang Again In THE SUICIDE SQUAD
That “total reboot” The Suicide Squad sure has a lot of familiar faces coming back. In addition to Margot Robbie and Viola Davis, Jai Courtney is set to reprise his role as Captain Boomerang in the James Gunn-directed sequel alongside some new faces that will include Idris Elba and, reportedly, John Cena as as-of-now undisclosed characters.
Courtney confirmed once again to The Hollywood Reporter that he’s returning to the role:
“Yeah, I am, I said it the other day in an interview and I felt like I let the cat out of the bag. I haven’t been sworn to secrecy about it so I guess it’s OK to say that I will be.”
Courtney went on to say he loved playing Boomerang and he’s looking forward to returning to the role:
“I loved playing Captain Boomerang. It’s just like a rocker’s nightmare. Just looking forward to reprising that and getting the gold tooth back in and getting after it.”
It remains unclear if there is anyone else returning from the first film beyond Robbie, Davis, and Courtney. Idris Elba was originally set to replace Will Smith as Deadshot, but Warner Brothers and Gunn decided to change course and make him a new character. While Cena hasn’t officially been confirmed, the report originally comes from Variety.
A rumor from earlier this year lists the new character line up as Peacemaker, King Shark, Polka Dot Man, and a female Ratcatcher. Our very own MFR reported exclusively that Gunn is looking to cast a monstrous alien femme fatale for the film.
What do you think of the cast that’s shaping up for The Suicide Squad?
