Keanu Reeves Is Down For JOHN WICK 4 (And Beyond?)
Does anyone remember when we knew Keanu Reeves as Neo from the Matrix? Now, we know him as John Wick (and we also know if you kill his dog, he will kill you). Back in 2014 the first installment of the franchise was released and made about $88 million but was well received by critics. The box office results weren’t a total let down as the film’s budget was only $20 million. The film’s results gave way to a second installment in 2017 and this film doubled in box office sales with $171.5 million, on a budget of only $40 million!
Now it’s 2019 and the third installment of the franchise is set to release this May. The film is long-range tracking for a $40 million opening weekend, which would be the highest in franchise history. With the franchise’s success climbing after every installment one may ask if the franchise is going to continue after John Wick 3? Well, we may have an answer.
In an interview with GQ Reeves addressed how long he’d like to keep playing Wick. “As far as my legs can take me” he said, before adding, “As far as the audience wants to go.”
This comes mere weeks after co-star Ian McShane said this in response to a question about John Wick getting rebooted in 10 years:
“Oh gosh. Probably in 10 years, John Wick would still be going. You never know, Keanu might be running the [Continental] hotel and everything by then… The world of John Wick is being explored in the next one. That will be more about the High Table, you find out more about him, his background, whatever. Preparing for who knows what the hell will happen next time. It gets bigger. I think you’ll enjoy that too.”
I think that the $40 million from the fans says a lot about their thoughts on the franchise continuing. Again, with the film’s current trajectory it would be difficult for the filmmakers to stop here, especially if the money continues to increase with each installment. Sure, the film fits in with the rest of the action movies happening in today’s industry but he isn’t a super hero and he has no powers. He is just a man with a gun, who kicks ass. And audiences seem to love the simplicity of that.
Are you here for a John Wick 4?
