TRAIN TO BUSAN’s Ma Dong-seok Joins THE ETERNALS For Marvel

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

With the Infinity Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally drawing to a close next week with Avengers: Endgame hitting theaters, fans are beginning to focus more and more on the future of the franchise. Just what lies in store for fans with Phase 4 and beyond in the MCU? There’s Spider-Man: Far From Home coming this summer and the new shows on Disney+ streaming service in the works, as well as the Black Widow solo film. In particular however I have been most excited to see more about Chloe Zhao’s The Eternals.

The Wrap reports that South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok of Train to Busan fame has joined the cast alongside the likes of Kumail Nanjiani and Angelina Jolie as Sersi. However the site notes that Ma’s role remains under wraps for now, the same as Nanjiani. On an exciting note, this will also be Ma’s American film debut!

Admittedly I still need to watch Train to Busan myself, so I’m not very familiar with Ma as an actor but I find it incredibly exciting to see Zhao and the team at Marvel Studios recruit actors from across the globe for future MCU films. Another thought I have is that this also bodes well for the recent rumors that Marvel Studios were looking to cast an openly gay actor for an LGBTQ+ character in the film. It seems that the studio has an active interest in branching out to recruit more cast and crew members of various ethnicities, gender and sexuality as the Infinity Saga comes to an end. That can only benefit Marvel. Look at the success and reaction to films like Academy Award nominated Black Panther, and Captain MarvelThe Eternals is a little known property to general audiences, but with casting like this, might become something special.
