THE NUN 2 Captures Akela Cooper For Scripting Duties

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

The Nun is coming back! Akela Cooper will write the script for the future addition to the Conjuring Universe, The Nun 2. Deadline says the new film will take us deeper into the sacred world of that universe. The Conjuring Universe presently includes The Conjuring (2013), The Conjuring 2 (2016), Annabelle (2014), Annabelle Creation (2017), and The Nun (2018). Those movies have totaled $1.57 billion at the box office, with The Nun grossing highest worldwide ($365 million). Future movies include for this year, La Llorona, and Annabelle Comes Home, for 2020 The Conjuring 3, and now The Nun 2 at a yet to be determined date.

With The Nun grossing so high at the box office, it’s not a surprise the sequel was greenlit. The movie had a budget of only $22 million, so that’s a great profit margin for a horror film to have.

Cooper returns to the thriller horror genre after working on the Lionsgate and CBS film Hell Fest. She also wrote the script for the upcoming artificial intelligence doll thriller M3gan for The Conjuring Universe creator James Wan (who’s coming off of Aquaman making $1 billion at the box office) and his production company Atomic Monster. She worked on the Luke Cage series for Marvel and Netflix, is working on the upcoming Jupiter’s legacy series for Netflix, and has also worked on the ever popular American Horror Story series. Horror’s in her blood, it seems.

The Nun 2 will be produced by Atomic Monster and Peter Safran’s The Safran Company. There’s not much other information we currently have. If you need some Conjuring Universe before The Nun 2 releases, this weekend Curse of La Llorona releases. Annabelle Comes Home will be released on June 28.
