TOMB RAIDER: The Sequel Has Been Found
Tomb Raider 2 is a treasure some thought would be lost forever, but MCM and Warner Brothers have decided to go find it. According to Deadline, MCM and Warner Brothers have hired Amy Jump to write a sequel for the Tomb Raider reboot starring Alicia Vikander. Vikander likes who Lara Croft is in Jump’s scripting, so it’s assumed she will hop back on the train of puzzle solving. The original earned $274 million worldwide, turning Vikander into an action heroine extraordinary after living in the realm of science fiction with Ex Machina.
Jump is best known for collaborations with partner Ben Wheatley, a director who co-writes with Jump a lot. They worked together on the action flick Free Fire that starred Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy and Armie Hammer. Jump also has credits on Kill List, A Field in England, Sightseers, and High-Rise. Her films are favorites in the United Kingdom. Jump joins the pool of female action writers, all of whom are in high demand. Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons wrote the first installment that Warner Brothers released. Roar Uthaug directed the first Tomb Raider, It’s unknown if he will return.
Tomb Raider with Vikander premiered last year, as an attempt to reboot the original starring Angelina Jolie. Personally I liked the reboot more than the original, so I’m glad to see a move towards giving it a sequel. I completely agree with Vanessa Lee Bontea in her review of the movie (which you can read HERE). Uthaug gave us an absolutely believable take on Croft’s transition from a simple Londoner, to a warrior who can solve anything. This sequel can’t come soon enough for me.
What about y’all? Excited to see a sequel for this movie? Does the script writer’s previous films give any indication as to what the sequel might hold? Let us know what y’all think in the comments below!
