Mackenzie Davis Discusses Her Mysterious TERMINATOR: DARK FATE Character

Read Time:1 Minute, 56 Second

Not a whole lot is known about Tim Miller’s Terminator: Dark Fate. Outside of the fact that the film will disregard every sequel that followed James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and will be bringing back Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor, much of the film is shrouded in mystery.

For example, Blade Runner 2049 and The Martian star Mackenzie Davis has been featured prominently, looking tough as nails in official stills from the movie. But aside from assurances from Miller that she’s awesome in Terminator: Dark Fate, we know next to nothing about the character she’s playing. Is she human? Is she a terminator? What’s the deal?

Well, the talented actress sat down with ComicBook.com and shed a little bit of light on her role in the story:

“I can say that I’m an enhanced human being and I come to Mexico City under a mysterious mission to protect Danni Ramos played by Natalia Reyes, and that’s about it.”

The bit about being an “enhanced human” is very interesting- especially when you look closer at the first official image released of her.

See those scars on her arms, hands, and chest? It conjures imagery of her being cut open and having certain enhancements grafted onto her skeleton, making her part-human, part-machine.

It’s an established trope in the franchise to have a human being from the past be in danger, requiring they be protected by someone with knowledge of the dark days that lie ahead. In the first Terminator, it was Sarah being protected by Michael Biehn’s very human Kyle Reese, who traveled back in time from a post-apocalyptic future to protect her from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800. In Terminator 2, a T-800 model (once again played by Schwarzenegger in a fun twist) was sent from the future to stop the T-1000 from killing her and her son, John Connor.

And now, in Terminator: Dark Fate, it sounds like that tradition will continue with Davis’ character making sure that new character Danni Ramos survives the latest cybernetic threat from the future.

Mackenzie is fantastic, I think people are going to be amazed by what a bada** she is,” director Tim Miller told IGN last week.
