Third WALKING DEAD Series In The Works at AMC!

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

If you’ve been looking for a third night of zombies on AMC, you’re in luck! The network has announced it’s developing a third series based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead.

The new series is being described as chronicling the adventures of the first generation to come of age during the zombie apocalypse. The series will center around two female protagonists. Dark Horizons reports that “some will become heroes, others villains, and all will be changed forever.”

AMC has seen massive success with The Walking Dead and the prequel series Fear the Walking Dead. After a rough couple of seasons, the first series is experiencing a critical renaissance in its ninth season with its best Rotten Tomatoes score yet while viewership has slid to its lowest numbers yet with five million viewers on average per week. At the height of its popularity, The Walking Dead was the most watched show on television when it aired with an average of 15 million viewers in its fifth season. Fear the Walking Dead has aired for four seasons with a fifth season premiering in June.

Last year, star Andrew Lincoln announced he would exit the show in season 9. Many fans had assumed his character, Rick Grimes, would be killed off. Instead, following his last appearance on the show, AMC announced a series of TV movies based on Rick Grimes that will continue his story. The first of those films is reportedly set to premiere this year.

The Walking Dead is based on the Image Comics series of the same name by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. The series is frequently at the top of the best selling collected editions and graphic novels chart every month.
