DETECTIVE PIKACHU Eyeing A Huge Opening Weekend

Read Time:2 Minute, 3 Second

Here we go folks, we might have our first successful video game adaptation on our hands. I must be the first to admit, when I think of Pikachu I never imagine Ryan Reynolds’ voice, but in an odd way, it works.  And it seems to be working for everyone else as well.  Detective Pikachu has already received early praise from viewers who have seen the film. And now it seems to be heading towards box office success as well.

According to Box Office Pro, Detective Pikachu is projected to open up at around $75 million in North America and end up with a total domestic cume of $250 million by the end of its run.  That would be an impressive opening, considering it is not counting China, which is where it may earn the most of its box office sales.  What is even more impressive is that this is also opening just a few weeks after Avengers: Endgame, which is expected to rule the box office for the rest of eternity.

Either way, I am sure fans are just happy that we are all finally getting a live action Pokémon film.  Its not like we haven’t been begging for it since we were all five years old.  It also doesn’t seem like the movie is holding back, we will be getting everything. From new gen Pokémon to old, from Charizard versus Pikachu and even a Mewtwo appearance.  This move is going to be jam-packed with a bunch of fan favorites and it is what we all deserve for waiting this long.

Check out the synopsis below:

“The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”

Detective Pikachu arrives in theaters on May 10.
