STAR TREK DISCOVERY’s Sonequa Martin-Green Joins SPACE JAM 2

Read Time:1 Minute, 36 Second

Sonequa Martin-Green is about to go from Mr. Spock to Bugs Bunny. The Star Trek: Discovery star has been tapped to star in Space Jam 2, opposite Lebron James.

Variety reports that Martin-Green has been tapped to play James’s wife in the untitled sequel. Theresa Randle played Michael Jordan’s wife in the original Space Jam, but her role was minor. If this follows the same structure as the original, Martin-Green won’t have a large role either. But you never know. Her star power is is quite a bit bigger than Randle’s.

No one else has been cast yet, but the original had the legendary Bill Murray in a fun supporting role. I can see someone like Kevin Hart or Michael Peña taking that role. No word on if Jordan or anyone from the original (other than Bugs, Lola and the rest of the Looney Tunes) will return.

James is actually a solid actor. His turn in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck was great. Even though he was playing a version of himself, it still felt natural. He should be able to hold his own with a talent like Martin-Green.

Terrance Nance is directing the sequel. Nance created Random Acts Of Flyness for HBO. The film is being produced by Creed and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.

Martin-Green has been in a bunch of popular television series like The Good Wife, and The Walking Dead. This will be her highest profile film to date however.

The exact plot of Space Jam 2 isn’t known, but it is sure to revolve around James teaming up with the Looney Tunes to save the world by playing basketball. The Looney Tunes are not as well known to kids these days as they were in 1996 when the first one was released. Maybe this could serve as a reintroduction to some of the most beloved cartoon characters of all time.
