SHAZAM! Gets A Beautiful, Williams-Inspired Theme From Composer Benjamin Wallfisch!

Read Time:1 Minute, 22 Second

DC on film has always been known for its tremendous scores. Going back to DC’s first big screen adventure, 1978’s Superman: The Movie, which featured an iconic score by John Williams, and continuing on through the tenures of Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, and Tom Holkenborg, it’s always been clear that a grand score is integral to bringing these heroes to life on the silver screen. And it sounds like that legacy will continue with Shazam!

David F. Sandberg, the director of the film, took to twitter earlier today to share the official “Shazam! Theme” that you’ll get to hear when the movie arrives in theaters next week.

It’s a big, vibrant, cheerful theme that clearly takes several cues from the one Williams composed for Superman all of those years ago, notably in the instruments chosen and by mimicking its conclusion.

And it’s not the first time a modern composer has attempted to update the type of theme that worked so well for Supes back in the day. Just check out Alan Silvestri’s “Captain America March” which, sadly, didn’t really get much play after 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger:

What do we think of what composer Benjamin Wallfisch has come up with for Shazam!?

Are you excited to hear it play in all its glory during the film itself when it opens next week?

Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Djimon Hounsou, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, and more.
