MOUSE GUARD: Idris Elba Will Join The Cast

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

Idris Elba will join Mouse Guard, a Boom! Studios comic adaptation by Fox according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be directed by Wes Ball, the director for the Maze Runner trilogy adaptations. Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster are already attached to the film, which is expected to start production in May. The film is described as Game of Thrones, but with mice. The film will be done predominantly with motion capture, and the visual effects will be completed by WETA.

Mouse Guard is based on the comics and books by David Petersen. The story is set in a medieval world, with its main characters an order of mice who are the sworn protectors of the world they live in. The enemies they face are predatorial animals, foxes, eagles and more. The series has won the Eisner award twice.

Elba will be playing what’s been described as an “Obi-Wan Kenobi” figure, Celanwe, with Serkis playing the villain, Midnight, a blacksmith of the realm who turns against it. Celanwe was once a legendary knight of the realm, who many had thought has disappeared. Brodie-Sangster will be playing the newbie on the block, Lieam, a new guardsman who is called upon to prove his bravery for the realm. Maybe Celanwe is called upon to ensure Lieam can fulfill his destiny?

Elba’s been a popular man recently, being cast to replace Will Smith as Deadshot for The Suicide Squad, and playing the villain in Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw which is set to hit theaters August 2 2019. He is also coming off playing the feline Macavity in Universal’s adaptation of the Broadway show Cats.

What does everyone think of this casting? Good for the role? Idris is amazing in anything he does, so I’m excited. Let us know if you are in the comments below!
