BLACK ADAM Will Appear Prior To A SHAZAM! Sequel Appearance

Read Time:1 Minute, 54 Second

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seems to be the busiest actor in Hollywood with movies like Jumanji 3 (currently filming), Hobbs & Shaw on its way, and Jungle Cruise releasing next summer.  It can be quite clear why he hasn’t had time to film Black Adam.  But when its been about five years since he was cast as the character it makes you think, when in the world is the movie happening?  Well, we may have answer, sort of.  In an interview with Comicbook.com Peter Safran said:

“Listen, we don’t know but I’ve gotta believe that there’s gonna be a standalone Black Adam movie before there’s ever a movie with Shazam and Black Adam sharing the screen,”

I think the question now is which will come first?  A Shazam! sequel or a Black Adam movie and at this rate do not be surprised if the sequel comes first.  Good things come to those who wait and if Shazam! is what it is being made out to be coupled with Johnson killing his role, then this will make for great cinema. Johnson has been a box office behemoth and sure seeing human pitted against Superman would have been epic, but I am sure Zachary Levi’s Shazam! will be a damn good plan B.  Safran adds that DC has been great in letting them take their time to give him an origin story.

“Yeah I think that is the goal, it is giving heroes their time to shine and not feeling like you have to shoehorn in some universal connection amongst them all. The studio’s been incredibly supportive and DC’s been supportive about saying take the time that you need to introduce these characters in the right way and tell the stories that you really want to tell, and that the audiences really want to see with these characters.”

Some may say they would have preferred Black Adam in Shazam! or in The Suicide Squad (me included) but I believe building this epic battle up before bringing it to life is an excellent strategy, especially considering who the actor involved is.

Shazam! hits theaters April 5.
