THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA Is In The CONJURING Universe!
It was rumored, but thanks to a review from Blood Disgusting, we have confirmation The Curse of La Llorona is set in The Conjuring Universe. The The Conjuring universe has been growing, and The Curse of La Llorona is the most recent spinoff following Annabelle and The Nun. The film recently premiered at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas and Bloody Disgusting caught the connection between all the movies.
The confirmation came from having Tony Amendola in the film, reprising his same role of Father Perez from the original Annabelle movie. It’s unknown if this was planned originally to be a spinoff, or if producers just took an opportunity to tie in to the franchise.
Michael Chaves directs The Curse of La Llorona in his debut , but he’ll take on The Conjuring 3 next. James Wan selected him to direct the movie, and it makes sense after his first movie helps flesh out the story of his beloved franchise. Wan said this about Chaves:
“While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker. While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker.”
No one’s exactly sure why New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. won’t admit outright that the film is connected to the massively successful The Conjuring franchise. The films are often described as extraordinary works, and are a hit at the box office. But one can imagine it might simply be a matter of the filmmakers wanting Curse of La Llorona to stand on its own.
I am not a horror film fan whatsoever. That being said, James Wan did a fantastic job with Aquaman, so I might peak at a Conjuring movie. In the daytime of course.
