SUPERGIRL: Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman Not Returning for Remainder of Season 4

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

It seems as though Supergirl will finish out its current season without another visit from her cousin Superman.

According to Comicbook, the producers of the show (Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller) were asked if the Man of Steel will return and both said, “not this season.”

This does not exactly close the door on him making an appearance in Season 5, but this could be bad news for those eager to see more of Kal-El.  However, let’s not forget that this is a show about Supergirl and not her famous cousin.  Even though he will not make an appearance there will still be Superman elements throughout the remainder of the season.  His inclusion in the series has led to other characters making their appearances as well, such as Lois Lane and more recently Lex Luthor.

Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman was first introduced back in Season 2 and his popularity has been on the rise ever since.  There have even been rumblings about the possibility of him getting his own show, which is understandable considering the fact that during the Elseworlds event, Supergirl (which included Superman) had the highest ratings during the three night event.  With Henry Cavill’s role as Superman being a bit up in the air at the moment, Hoechlin’s version could satisfy those wanting to see the hero on screen.

The fact that the showrunners are refusing to lean on Superman as a crutch for the series displays their commitment to the character of Supergirland the importance of being her own hero without the help of Kal-El.

Supergirl airs on Sundays at 8PM on The CW.
