Disney Rehires James Gunn for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3!
Guardians fans rejoice! It looks like the man behind the first two super successful films, James Gunn, will return to Marvel to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!
Deadline has confirmed with both Marvel and Gunn that he is indeed returning to the directors chair after a series of meetings with Walt Disney Studios president Alan Horn and a massive outpouring of support from fans of the first two films.
Gunn was fired after alt-right trolls dug up a series of tweets he later clarified were bad jokes made during a time when he wanted to be more of a provocateur. He gave an effusive public apology before being fired by the studio. He received an outpouring of support from the cast (most notably Dave Bautista), fans, and fandom journalists. The cast sent an open letter to Disney asking them to consider his return and a petition was circulated that received thousands of signatures from fans.
Gunn was subsequently hired by Warner Brothers to direct The Suicide Squad, the follow up to 2016’s Suicide Squad. Deadline has confirmed Gunn will direct the follow-up to the Warner Brothers / DC picture before he heads back to Marvel to film the next Guardians.
Stay tuned to Revenge of the Fans for the latest updates on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and more!
