RED SONJA: Bryan Singer Removed As Director
The Hollywood Reporter is following up on the latest in the Charlie Kirk scandal for Warner Brothers, and caught some news on the director development with Red Sonja. Bryan Singer has been removed from the director helm of the Millennium Falcon adaption of Red Sonja. Originally the intent of Millennium executive Avi Lerner was to keep Singer on, dismissing the claims of the general public that he had assaulted under-age boys. He reneged on the dismissal soon after, and proceeded to remove Singer from the project after he could not find a domestic distributor for the film’s release.
Red Sonja is an adaption of Robert E. Howard’s comic heroine. She has powers of sorcery, and wields an impressive sword. The heroine made her first appearance in film in 1985, with Brigitte Nielsen in the role. It’s currently unknown whether or not the film will continue with production. The script was penned by Ashley Edward Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor). The character has a dark past, and typically wears a scale armor in the form of a bikini.
Singer was originally rumored to be attached to the project in September of last year. He has a history of taking on projects he grew up close to, directing four X-Men movies, and Superman Returns. The adaption of Red Sonja was supposed to capitalize on the wave of female-centric comic book movies. The film was shelved a month ago when waves of controversy rocked Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic Singer directed through principal photography.
I’m happy to see Singer go myself. His cloud has sat over too many movies, and it needs to clear up before he tackles anymore films. It distracts too much from crew’s success, as it’s a dangerous realm to be in. Things need to be cleared up before he returns to anything in Hollywood.
What are your thoughts? Would you like to see Red Sonja come back on the production schedule with a different director? Let us know in the comments below.
