Oscar Isaac Reiterates That EPISODE IX Is The Last Of The Skywalker Saga

It is nine months and one week until we see Star Wars: Episode IX and we know very little. No title. No imagery. No general story beats. All we know is that J.J. Abrams returned to direct, and who is in the cast, thanks to a press release that Lucasfilm put out.

On July 27, 2018, Lucasfilm released the cast in a press release. It confirmed that Mark Hamill would return, as would Carrie Fisher via archive footage. It listed others too, like Billy Dee Williams bringing Lando back, and of course Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac.

It also mentioned that it would be the last Skywalker Movie in the second sentence of the press release:

“Star Wars: Episode IX will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1, 2018.  J.J. Abrams returns to direct the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio.”

In an interview with the Today Show, Isaac confirmed that fact.

It is the end of the entire Skywalker saga. Nine stories. This is the culmination of the thing. I think what J.J. [Abrams] has done, and really the whole Lucasfilm team, is going to be incredibly fulfilling. It’s also special for us because you get to learn a lot more new things about these characters.

People have been tight lipped about Episode IX, even the very verbose Kevin Smith, who visited the set and cried when he watched a scene being filmed, didn’t say much. But the one thing that keeps coming up that Lucasfilm seems okay with saying is that this is the last in the main story.

That doesn’t mean the end of Star Wars though. Quite the contrary. They will just finally be telling new stories. There are several television shows in the pipeline being developed for Disney +, including The Mandalorian and a Cassian Andor series. The Game Of Thrones guys are making a standalone trilogy, and despite the whiny insecure fragile toxic men’s best efforts, Rian Johnson is still developing a trilogy of his own as well.

So there is a ton of Star Wars coming, but the story that started in 1977 will end in 2019 with 9 movies.

It’s been said twice. It will probably be said again. We are so starved for Star Wars news that the internet will probably cover it when its said again, until we get something more substantial.
