Jared Harris Joins Jared Leto’s MORBIUS

Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

In the wake of Reuben Fleischer’s Venom finding massive success at the box office last fall, Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters is now pushing ahead with its sophomore entry, the Jared Leto-led Morbius solo film. Joining Leto among the lead cast are Doctor Who veteran Matt Smith and Pacific Rim: Uprising‘s Adria Arjona. Details on the film have largely been kept mum, but plans were reportedly set for the film to wrap filming in May. However a new name has just joined the film’s cast and I have to say I’m actually kind of excited by this particular pick.

Deadline reports that Mad Men and The Terror veteran Jared Harris has signed onto the cast for Morbius, although the site notes that details on Harris’ role currently remain scarce. Back in January, I speculated that Smith’s character in the film might be “Loxias Crown,” the rumored villain in Morbius who may be a drastically altered incarnation of a character named Hunger from the comics. Provided that the information on that is accurate, perhaps that is in fact Harris’ role?

As I mentioned previously, I actually find myself excited by this news. I’m still not sold on Morbius as a whole right now and I still believe that Sony Pictures have their work cut out for them if they want to keep the momentum of Venom‘s success going for the longterm, but Harris is an excellent addition to the cast. It’s been years since I last watched Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in its entirety, but I often revisit clips of Harris’ performance as Professor James Moriarty on YouTube. He was utterly magnetic in the role and if he can bring a similar quality to Morbius, the film will be all the better for it.
