Zendaya Will Join Haddish In 24 JUMP STREET, As 23 Remains ‘Reserved’

Read Time:2 Minute, 1 Second

One franchise that came out of nowhere was 21 Jump Street. The comedy starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill was a huge hit, spawning a sequel and talks of more to come. 1 of those ideas was to cross the franchise over with Men In Black. Instead, that went its own way, and Jump Street will continue with a female led spinoff.

In December, it was reported that Tiffany Haddish would star in the movie. The rumor was that she would star with Awkwafina, but with her starring in Jumanji 3 now, that seems unlikely. Instead, a new report from Production Weekly says that Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s Zendaya will co-star.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller – who directed the first two movies, will produce this one for director Rodney Rothman (one of the directors of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse).

Neither Production Weekly or RTF made an error with the title. It is 24 Jump Street, even though the last movie in the franchise was 22 Jump Street. Lord did confirm the title, and said they are saving 23 for later. During an interview with We Live Entertainment in January, Lord said, “We’re reserving 23 Jump Street.” Whether 23 is supposed to bring back Tatum and Hill or not remains to be seen, but the title proves that Sony, Lord, and Miller have future plans for this franchise.

Haddish and Zendaya together sounds like a fun time. If they can get someone like Melissa McCarthy or Kate McKinnon to play the Ice Cube role, that will be such a great dynamic. (Or maybe Ice Cube returns as the boss of the organization). Either way, the talent involved behind and in front of the camera is something to keep an eye on.

This is a much better idea than the Men In Black crossover. That always seemed too ridiculous to work. Those universes don’t have a lot of intersection, and to force that could hurt both franchises. But an organization that needs cops to go undercover to pretend to be high school/college kids would definitely need females to do the same thing. This seems like the next logical choice, and will hopefully be a successful female-led blockbuster in this toxic time of entitled (male) fandom.

There is no release date scheduled yet, but we will be sure to keep you updated.
