While I know we’re still early into 2019, I can’t help but think ahead to the future and what movies are on the horizon. For example, one of the films I’m most excited to see next year is Bond 25. Longtime actor Daniel Craig confirmed that this will be his final outing as Agent 007 and that he wants to end his tenure on a high note. My personal hype and excitement for this film skyrocketed last year when EON Productions announced that True Detective alum Cary Fukunaga would be the film’s new director. With a new draft of the script known to be in the works, I’m even more excited that we might know now who will be the next Bond villain!
Collider reports that Bohemian Rhapsody and Mr. Robot star Rami Malek is in final negotiations to star opposite Craig as the film’s main villain. While it was previously reported that the actor was in the running for the role, Malek was previously never formally offered the role by EON due to potential scheduling conflicts with filming the final season of Mr. Robot. Fresh off of his Best Actor win at the Oscars earlier this week, it seems that he and his team at WME were able to negotiate a schedule to accommodate both projects, although the site notes that no deal has been made just yet. Should things progress smoothly from here, it is rumored that Malek’s character in the film will be blind.
While there is certainly a fair amount of controversy that surrounds Bohemian Rhapsody as a film and with its director, I can’t deny that Malek’s performance in the film was fantastic. Between his work there and on Mr. Robot, I can absolutely see him making for a fantastic opponent for Craig’s Bond to face off against in one last mission before the baton is passed on to a new actor.
