New DARK PHOENIX Trailer Ups The Ante, Braces Us For An Epic Conclusion

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

We’ve just been given a new look at Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix, presumably the final mainline X-Men film from 20th Century Fox before the franchise gets rebooted in some fashion with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a dark and emotional trailer, showing us a team on high alert because one of their own may be losing her way.

You can check out the new trailer, poster, and official synopsis for Dark Phoenix right here:

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

The film will be a direct sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse and, for all intents and purposes, the final entry in the franchise that began in 2000. While it’s expected we’ll see Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool continue on under new leadership after the Disney-Fox merger goes through, this is likely the last time we’ll see any of these versions of these characters again.

The dynamite cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

Dark Phoenix arrives in theaters on June 7.
