The Disney-Fox Merger Could Be Done By March 8

Read Time:1 Minute, 54 Second

The Disney-Fox merger has been the topic of discussion for a while now. Most people are focusing on the fact that the X-Men and the Fantastic Four will be able to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. People keep wondering when that will happen. Well, the deal isn’t official yet, so nothing can happen. But a new report says that it could be done as early as next week…

Bloomberg reports that there is only a couple of hold outs left, in Brazil and Mexico. All parties involved have to sign off on the deal, and they are the last two to do so. Brazil was worried about the competition Disney would have owning ESPN and Fox Sports, but they agreed to sell Fox Sports and its assets, which put the deal through. Mexico is looking for a similar deal. It seems that Disney will agree to it, and things could be done as early as today. Add 10 days for paperwork and red tape, and the Disney-Fox merger could be official by March 8.

There are some nerdy pros to this, but there are also a lot of cons. Yes, fans will get to see the X-Men join the MCU. The first family of Marvel, The Fantastic Four, might finally get handled correctly. The Simpsons will also now be owned by Disney, which is a joke they predicted a long time ago:

But the cons are heavy too. There will be massive job loss and layoffs. They will have doubles of a lot of things, and they will let the Fox people go before their own. This is also bad news for content creators. Now there is one less place to pitch something. Now there is one less company to take a chance on writers, directors, and other various talent. So yeah, we might be able to see Professor Xavier get inside Bruce Banner’s head. We also might get to see John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic buying Stark Tower. But at what cost?

There’s nothing we can do about it now. It’s okay to be excited about the potential of the MCU, but we should also be empathetic to everything lost in this as well.

What are your thoughts on the Disney-Fox merger?
