MARVEL: Feige Says The Upcoming Disney+ Shows Are Directly Connected To The MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is stuck in a rather peculiar situation these days. On the one hand, things are looking better than ever on the big screen for Marvel Studios with Captain Marvel finally arriving in theaters in a few weeks’ time and then Avengers: Endgame shortly after. On the other hand, Netflix recently pulled the plug on the last two MCU series (The Punisher and Jessica Jones) in their catalogue and it will likely be two or three years before fans will get to see favorites like Daredevil or the Kingpin in the MCU again. As a result, it seems inevitable that a large bulk of the future MCU content on television will stem from the upcoming Disney+ streaming service… but how connected to the films will the new shows actually be?

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige himself, the answer is ‘very much so.’ In a new interview with Comicbook.com, Feige stated, “These will be Marvel Studios productions. They will be entirely interwoven with both the current MCU, the past MCU, and the future of the MCU.”

Unfortunately fans will have to continue waiting for a few more months before they learn when any of these new shows will arrive or more details on the stories and characters that will be present. The most likely answer is that the next major update for fans will come this summer at San Diego Comic Con 2019. Feige explained, “As we’ve been doing for years, aren’t going to announce anything post Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man: Far From Home until post Endgame and Spider-Man.”

Still, it’s cool to know that shows like the upcoming Loki series, and the rumored series for Winter Soldier and Falcon and Vision and Scarlet Witch, will all have direct ties to their cinematic counterparts, right? After all, one of the biggest complains about the Marvel shows on Netflix was how they were initially promoted as being connected to the films, and yet as time went on it became clear that there’s no real synergy there.

This opens up some really cool opportunities for synergy and multi-layered storytelling.
